2012 Toyota GT 86

Toyota has something tasty in the pipeline. Dare I say it, even tastier than syrup-soaked yams. Calling it the “world’s most compact four-seater sports car,” the GT 86 is about to make its debut on the world stage. Besides its ravishing good looks, there’s lots to like under the hood, too. The GT 86’s engine is the result of some friendly co-op action between Toyota and Subaru, with Toyota adding its D-4S injection technology to Subaru’s new, horizontally opposed, naturally aspirated 1,998cc four-cylinder boxer engine.

This system also features separate twin injectors for both direct and port injection, and a high 12.5:1 compression ratio, increasing power and torque across a wide range of engine speeds without sacrificing fuel efficiency and environmental performance. The GT 86 is capable of 197 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft @6,600 rpm. The vehicle is 167″ long, 50.6″ high, and 101″ wide, with 53:47 front-to-rear weight distribution. A 17″ wheel/tire package is standard, and the 86 will come in both 6-speed and automatic transmissions flavors. It goes up for grabs in the UK next June. Hype video after the jump.
