Santa’s bringing the NBA back on Christmas Day, but he’s getting upstaged three days before that by Nike and Kobe Bryant. The gall! The Nike Kobe VII System Supreme is a customizable shoe that allows players to switch ankle support and mid-foot cushioning via two interchangeable inserts. The way Nike sees it, if you play ball with speed and finesse, you go with the Attack Fast insert which features a Phylon midsole with Zoom units in the forefoot and heel for lightweight responsiveness, as well as a low-cut, power-stretch cuff that grips your tootsies for extra support. Somehow I don’t see Kobe Bryant referring to his feet as “tootsies”, but whatever. The sock-like fit is meant to eliminate the need for a traditional tongue and inner sleeve, making for a lighter shoe. Now if you like to throw your weight around like Big Baby Davis, then you go with the Attack Strong insert, which features a full-length Cushlon midsole and an ankle cuff for superior support. And if you prefer your shoes in the digital variety, check out NBA 2K12, as they’ll be showing up there on Dec. 22, too.
